Stay Salty

The practice of bathing in salt water, particularly in the form of natural mineral-rich salts like Epsom salt or sea salt, has been a part of various cultures throughout history for its perceived therapeutic and health benefits. Sea salt, obtained from evaporated seawater, is rich in minerals such as magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Epsom salt, chemically known as magnesium sulphate, is not naturally found in the town of Epsom itself. The name “Epsom salt” is derived from the town of Epsom in Surrey, England, where it was first discovered and produced in significant quantities.

“There must be something strangely sacred in salt. It is in our tears and in the sea.”
Khalil Gibran
Writer . Poet . Philosopher

In the early 17th century, a farmer in Epsom noticed that his cows refused to drink water from a certain well. Upon investigating, it was found that the water from this well had a bitter taste. The bitter taste was attributed to the presence of magnesium sulphate in the water, and the substance was subsequently referred to as Epsom salt.

Epsom salt is of course, not unique to Epsom and can be found in various locations worldwide!

There's no doubt that taking a long soak in a salty bath, or soaking one's feet in a warm solution of bathsalts brings relief to muscles and tired legs! You can buy Epsom salts as they are, but take a look at our recommendations for a wonderfully indulgent post workout treat!
