Putty in your hands

Putty in your hands

Putting is a huge part of what makes a golfer formidable. If it’s an area you find shots being frittered away then listen up… I helped Liz with her grip and her alignment and she started sinking balls from all over the show. Just a warning for anyone playing with her soon.

She firstly “Got a Grip” on the way she holds the putter.

So often when a golfer golf’s the putter they do so with the same grip as they hit a full shot with. This grip will definitely be making them hit the putts rather than stroke them.

To encourage a silky smooth stroke that would see you putting like a dream even on the greens at Augusta, you need to go “hands free” with your putting grip, here’s how to do it.

Disconnect your hands and sit the grip more in the lifeline of your palms. Then sit the top index finder over the cuticles of your lower hand. You are now hands free and tension free. The amount of roll on your putts will increase and distance control should be dreamy.

Another point to mention is “Are you actually aiming where you want your ball to start?”

Sounds obvious but it’s a fast way to see huge improvement.

So often a golfer has a fab stroke but isn’t lined up correctly. Use one of these wonderful alignment tools from @softspikesgolf and you’ll sink putts with your eyes closed. The sharpie pen draws a really solid “in your face” line and you can then mark your ball and use this to head at the hole.

Your putter often has a line on top so marry the two up and stroke your putter up and down this line: almost like you’re drawing an extension of it either side of the ball. No need to look up on putts under 6 feet, simply go 1-2 or tick-tock and listen for the rattle as your ball disappears into the hole.

Hey presto! You’re a heroine on the dance floor.
Happy Golfing Everyone!
