For many of us, golf is more than just a sport; it’s a way of life that opens doors to friendships, and we have covered this previously in our Empty Nester column and Golf after Divorce column. This month, we’re thrilled to feature Faye a passionate golfer from Surrey, whose story beautifully illustrates the unifying power of the game.
A Game That Changed Everything
Emily discovered golf during a tough time in her life. After moving to a new town and juggling the demands of raising two teenagers, she felt isolated and in need of a hobby that offered both a challenge and an opportunity to connect with others.
“Golf was something I never thought I’d be interested in,” Faye admits. “But when a neighbour invited me to join her for a lesson, I decided to give it a try. From the first swing, I was hooked—not just by the game, but by the community it introduced me to.”
Friendship
Through weekly games and casual lessons, she quickly built a network of like-minded women who shared her enthusiasm for the sport. The camaraderie extended beyond the course, with post-game coffees turning into lifelong friendships.
“Golf became my escape and my social circle,” Faye shares. “We encourage each other, celebrate each other’s victories, and laugh at the occasional wayward shot and love a glass of wine in the clubhouse afterward!”
Connections
Faye also found golf to be a way to bring her family closer. One of her teenage daughters joined her for rounds, and it became a bonding experience that bridged the gap between their busy lives. “We’re not just mother and daughter out there; we’re teammates. It’s brought us closer in ways I never expected.”
Beyond the connections, golf has given her a newfound sense of confidence and resilience. “Every round teaches you patience and focus,” she says. “You learn to embrace the highs and lows, not just on the course but in life and I’ve lost some weight due to all the walking!”
