Who doesn’t love the change of season? Despite a rather disappointing summer, we at Birdies are still excited about the magic of autumn as it descends on us.
As the days grow shorter and the air takes on a crisp chill, the leaves begin to turn golden and red, falling like confetti to the ground, and a cozy sweater becomes a daily necessity. It’s a time for warm drinks, fuzzy blankets, and, perhaps most delightfully, scented candles. We’ll be covering “Fall for Style” in the magazine this month, but for now who doesn’t reach for the Scented Candles once the evenings start to close in?
There is nothing quite like the comforting glow of a candle flickering in the evening light bringing an inviting warmth to our homes, making them feel like a safe haven and almost dreamlike as darkness falls, and the flames dance and flicker, casting soft shadows around the room.
A Symphony of Scents
Cultural and Spiritual Significance: Throughout history, scented candles have played a crucial role in religious and spiritual practices. In many cultures, the burning of scented candles is seen as a way to purify the air, create a sacred space, or symbolise devotion and prayer.
The scent of pumpkin spice is like a warm embrace, a reminder of baking pies and sipping lattes as the leaves fall outside. I love more ethnic tones like Patchoulli and some florals like Peony and rose scents . . they can create a soothing, nostalgic ambiance, reminiscent of moments gone by...
Creating a Cozy Atmosphere
Placing candles around your living space can transform even the most ordinary moments into something special. Light a candle at the dinner table, and it becomes a centrepiece that makes any meal feel like a celebration. Place one on your bedside table, and bedtime becomes a ritual of winding down and reflecting on the day. And you just can’t beat a candlelit bath in a hot soapy tub of fragrant oils!
The Ritual of Lighting a Candle
There’s something almost meditative about the act of lighting a candle. As you strike a match and bring it to the wick, you’re taking a moment to pause, to breathe, to set an intention for the evening. It’s a small, quiet ritual that can bring a sense of peace and mindfulness to your day.

Scented candles have a timeless appeal, and something particularly magical about them in the fall, when the nights grow longer and the world outside becomes a little colder.
