Put your best foot forward

Our feet bear the weight of our bodies and endure tremendous stress on a daily basis, however there is much to say about feet!  They are indeed remarkable structures, highly sensitive and beyond their physical function are feet are actually tuned to offer valuable feedback about our overall wellbeing.

It's essential to consult with a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment plan tailored to your specific needs.

Reflexology is an ancient practice that explores the connection of various organs and their corresponding reflex zones on the feet. We’re going to have a full article on “Feet and Reflexology” in May. Today we'll look at a condition that golfer’s feet are prone to and try to find some solutions.

Plantar Fasciitis

This is a common cause of heel pain due to inflammation of the Plantar Fascia, a thick band of tissue that connects the heel bone to the toes. It often results from strain or tears on a ligament that lead to the inflammation. One of the reasons that have been noted as a cause of this condition is improper footwear, although it can simply be down to certain foot mechanics.

Take Action!

Rest and Ice–resting the affected foot and applying ice packs several times a day can help reduce inflammation and alleviate pain.

Stretching–gentle stretching exercises for the Achilles tendon and plantar fascia can improve flexibility and relieve tensions. (See Page X for some suggestions!)
Physical therapy–again exercises and techniques to strengthen the foot muscles and improve mobility.

Anti-Inflammatory medicine–Non-steroid anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen/Advil may help with pain caused by inflammation–but we like herbal choices when it comes to this, so try Turmeric compresses or Turmeric, Horsetail, Feverfew, Willow, Ginger, Bromelain, Green tea, Calendula, Meadowsweet, Arnica, Chamomile and Tea Tree.
