Go with the flow! Awkward lies and how to deal with them!

Here are five tips for handling awkward lies, like a downhill or uphill lie in golf:

1. Adjust Your Stance and Balance

Downhill Lie: Position more weight on your front foot to stay balanced and match the slope. Aim to swing along the slope rather than against it.

Uphill Lie: Shift more weight to your back foot and adjust your shoulders to align with the slope. This helps maintain balance and promotes better contact.

2. Ball Position

Downhill Lie: Move the ball slightly back in your stance. This helps you make contact before the ground, preventing thin or topped shots.

Uphill Lie: Move the ball slightly forward in your stance to ensure you strike the ball cleanly on the upswing.

3. Club Selection

Downhill Lie: The slope will de-loft your club, so consider using a club with more loft than usual.

Uphill Lie: The slope will add loft to your club, so select a lower-lofted club to compensate.

4. Modify Your Swing

Downhill Lie: Make a shorter, more controlled swing to ensure solid contact. Try not to force distance, as this could cause you to lose balance.

Uphill Lie: Use a smooth, wider swing to allow for the extra loft created by the slope, but don’t over-swing or you might lose control.

5. Aim and Alignment

Downhill Lie: Shots from downhill lies tend to go right for right-handed players, so aim slightly left to compensate.

Uphill Lie: Shots from uphill lies tend to go left for right-handed players, so aim slightly right to adjust.
